A verse for today:
Friday, May 15
“I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23:6
You will dwell in “the house of the Lord” forever...but not this Sunday, yet! We won’t gather to worship until next Sunday, May 24 (see attached letter!). Interestingly enough, the “powers that be” have now recognized that our
religious activities at church, including worship, are an “essential business.” (We knew it all along!)
But the rest of the week, even as we continue to “shelter at home,” we still “dwell with the Lord.” In last Sunday’s Gospel Jesus said, “In my Father’s house are many rooms” (room enough for all!) John 14 continues as Jesus
speaks about where he dwells or “abides” – in us! You are now the Lord’s “abode” here on earth – wherever you go! What a privilege! And this Easter season assures you that you will abide with him forever. What a promise!
And what a good way to conclude this 8-week daily devotional series, as our lives start to get back to normal. Whatever your “new normal” will look like, remember who dwells with you, and in you...always!
Lord Jesus, you not only went through suffering and death for us, but rose again to new life that you might live in us, and that we might live with you – each day of our lives, and forever. Remind us always of your loving presence, of your grace and acceptance of us - your forgiveness, of your power at work. in us, and finally, of the place you have prepared for us with you forever. Amen.
“And now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever
and ever. Amen.” Heb. 13:20-21
